This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Love your work Brandon, discovered you on a shared Facebook Post. Looking forward to reading your blog and perhaps one day posting an industry interview with you on our site. Hope to connect soon!
Lovely poem. I’ll have to keep it around as a reminder, thanks for posting!
It’s funny, with each new text I read that’s steeped in mindfulness, I find new meaning and new ways to understand the nature of things. New revelations often come, sometimes large, most times small. With each new piece of wisdom, I can feel seeds of joy being watered!
Keep it coming.
Rob
I printed this poem and put it in my office. And I’ll put it in my truck. And in my bedroom. And keep a copy of it in my wallet. I will remind myself of this however and whenever I can because it is a beautiful reminder not to fight emotion, for emotion is critical to the human experience.
Thank you for sharing your self with us, Brandon.
